In Movie Still Hokusai stehen die feinen, klar abgegrenzten Zweige in einem deutlichen Spannungsverhältnis zum fließenden Übergang des türkis-blauen Hintergrunds. Das leuchtende Orange markiert einen Gegenpol zum ruhigen Farbraum, ohne sich von ihm zu lösen. Die Komplementärfarben stehen dabei nicht in visueller Konkurrenz - viel mehr eröffnen sie ein Verhältnis wechselseitiger Abhängigkeit.

Orange und Aquamarin machen einander sichtbar, indem sie sich gegenüberstehen; ebenso löst sich die fragile Gestalt aus dem Hintergrund, indem sie auf dessen Andersartigkeit trifft. Das Werk inszeniert so einen philosophischen Gedanken: Dass Erscheinung aus Spannung hervorgeht, und dass jedes Motiv einen Gegenraum braucht, um seine Eigenheit auszubilden. Movie Still Hokusai hält den Moment fest, in dem Kontrast nicht trennt, sondern Beziehung schafft.

In Movie Still Hokusai, the delicate, clearly delineated branches stand in tension with the fluid gradient of the turquoise background. The vivid orange forms a counter-pole to the calm field of color without detaching itself from it. The complementary colors are not in visual competition; rather, they open up a relation of mutual dependence.

Orange and aquamarine make each other visible through their opposition; likewise, the fragile form emerges from the background by encountering its otherness. The work thus stages a philosophical insight: that appearance arises from tension, and that every motif requires a counter-space in order to unfold its distinctiveness. Movie Still Hokusai captures the moment in which contrast does not divide but in which it creates relation.

Künstlerstatement:
Dieser Pigmentdruck entstand durch die Beschäftigung mit den Samenständen der Herbstpflanzen. Im Herbst entsteht so etwas wie eine zweite Blüte, wenn die Pflanzen ihre genialen Verpackungen für ihre Samen bilden – die Formen in denen die zukünftige Generation sicher bis zu ihrer Keimung verwahrt bleiben sollten. Die Hokusai-Version ist durch ihre Komposition und Farbigkeit eine Hommage an den großen japanischen Künstler und Drucker Hokusai. 

Der Druck ist mit hochpigmentierten, UV-beständigen Farben gedruckt und leuchtet aus sich selbst heraus. So kann er auch gut Wohnräume beleben, die möglicherweise nicht ideal beleuchtet sind. Im Shop sind weitere Varianten des Schafgarben-Drucks verfügbar.

Artist statement:
This Pigmentprint evolved out of the AFTERGLOW Series – a series of prints I did when having been fascinated by the second blossom of the plants, when they create the packaging of their seeds, the future generation. The Hokusai version is a dedication to the great japanese artist and printmaker Hokusai. This is a beautiful print that really does look good above a sofa because of the emphasize of the horizontal dimensions. As it glows out of itself through these highly pigmented UV resistant colors, it can also enliven living areas that might not be well lid. In the gallery you can see other samples of the yarrow print.
